D1 Flow and constraints
The end-to-end path from request to customer use, including non-engineering stages.
Red flag: Approval or release stages that wait days and were never touched by AI.
The three statements
Each is rated from 0 (not true) to 4 (fully true). The dimension score is their average.
- We have mapped the path from request to customer use, including stages outside engineering.
- We know how long changes wait at each stage, not only how long the work takes.
- Approvals, releases and rollouts have been sped up or redesigned, not only coding.
Evidence to gather
Value stream map, queue times, lead time by stage.
Score from evidence, not impressions. Where two people score the same team, the statements they disagree on are where to look first. The assessment's compare view lists them.
First moves
If D1 is your weakest dimension, start here:
- Map one real change end to end and time every wait. Pick the longest stage AI has not touched and set a target for it.
- Automate or batch approval and release steps that wait for people, and agree waiting-time targets for each stage.
